My name is Bob Dunkle. I have been asked to post a bio about myself and some of the things I stand for. First: I am a child of God. Second: I am an American and proud of it. Third: I am a Vermonter and equally proud of it. Fourth: I am a Republican. We need to be a bi-partisan state. We need people who will work together for Vermont, not personal interests. We cannot afford partisan politics in this state, we are literally fighting to survive as a state and people who are clinging on to staying here. I was born in Rhode Island into a navy family. I lived in many different sates, and graduated high school in Stuttgart Germany. My mom was born in Franklin, New Hampshire and my Dad in Jamaica Plain Massachusetts. So yes, I am part Masshole. My dads mom was from Sweden and both of my grandfathers fought in the second world war. I moved to Vermont with my wife Lori, and 4 children in 2007. We found a dream home on the Spring road in Tunbridge, and I have been here ever since. My wife passed away from cancer in 2008. We elected to stay after her death. Although I was not born in Vermont, my 5th great grandfather Hugh Alexander lived in Vershire and is buried there. I have Folsom grandparents buried here in Tunbridge. My 5th great grandfather Leonard Wells Hart lived in Vermont and was married here before he left with the great exodus for New York in 1816. I did not know this when we chose to live here. I am a genealogist as of 2022 and graduated with a degree in genealogy and research in 2024. It was amazing to see how many people I can call kin here. When I moved to Tunbridge, I left a note on the firehouse door and was called by John Durkee. I have served as a member of the Tunbridge Fire Department since 2007. In 2011 I was elected to the Selectboard and was pretty sure I had my fill of politics at that point. I was the head track and cross country coach for 15 years, retiring this spring with a lifetime achievement award. I spent almost 30 years coaching with USATF and was fortunate to meet many great athletes and coaches. I also spent 30 years as a marketing consultant for colleges and universities across the United States. I have 8 children and 2 step-children. A son who passed away at the tender age of 1. None of my children live in Vermont, primarily because they cannot afford to be here. This dovetails into my reason, my why in running for legislature. Vermont is awesome. The people are incredibly kind and willing to help each other. On the Tunbridge Volunteer Fire Department are the best people I know. I am related to the Pease family and have helped do chores on the farm. My son worked for them at one time. Our children all grew up together in very small classes. As I have gone through Tunbridge and Royalton it has been rewarding to meet with and chat with many people who seem to share a common concern. There is a disconnect between the people who work, live and try to survive in our rural communities, and those who are elected to represent us.
(1) Voting
Never vote on or agree to a bill that I have not read, and fully understand.
(2) Meet with People in an Open forum Once a Month
Meet with people in an open forum 1x per month to discuss what is happening in Montpelier, and receive guidance as to how I am to represent. For example: I would never have voted for 181. I would have read it, and brought the bill to the people of Tunbridge and Royalton. Shared with them the outline, and my understanding of it. I would have vigorously opposed the entire concept.
(3) Oppose New Regulations
until we clear up the mess we already have with current regulations. Loosen up the stranglehold this state has on farmers.
(4) Tighten Penalties for Distribution of Fentanyl
This drug is so lethal that possession of it to distribute should be attempted murder. end of story. Without real consequences we cannot stem this insidious drug. In our fire training we learn that we could also overdose just trying to help someone. We need to grow a pair and put a stop to this.
